Abstract:

There is a curse, attributed to the ancient Chinese: "May you live in interesting times." For corporate Europe, and indeed businesses around the world, these are interesting times indeed. After some six years of sustained growth, low inflation, bull markets and easy credit, the region is confronted with a host of challenges that were set off, or at least exacerbated by, the credit crunch that began in August 2007. Few have escaped the resulting turmoil.

This report, based on a survey of more than 450 senior finance executives across Europe, identifies what executives believe are the greatest threats to European industry in the year ahead, examines how corporate leaders are coping, and points out where they must improve.
